Introduction
This week is Anti-Bullying
Week and the theme nationally is “power for good”, this is
reflected in the Student Union social media and poster
campaign which you will see promoted throughout the college this
week.
We are committed to the
safety of all our learners and at the heart of the Career Ready
Standards is respect for all. Bullying in any form runs
contrary to our value system and this month in tutorials we will be
demonstrating that we have a zero tolerance to
discrimination, bullying and intimidation. These workshops will
focus on different types of bullying, including homophobic bullying,
cyber-bullying, sexual harassment and bullying on the grounds of
disability or religious beliefs.
Our Safeguarding headline
“Shout it out” at Lambeth College encourages a safe environment and
we want to maintain this positive culture and will work with
you to reinforce a clear message that we place learner’s safety and
well-being at the centre of the college experience.
“Fear drives bullying and bigotry,
education is the key to acceptance.”

of Learner Development

Old Vic Theatre Audition Workshop
This week the Old Vic Theatre
came in to deliver an audition workshop with our Level 3 Business and
ESOL learners.
As part of this session students
were put into groups and worked on various team building activities
that help improve, team work, communication and confidence. The
students were put through their paces and had to find ways to
communicate well with their group, speak publicly for their
group and review their progress. At the end of the workshop ten
students were then selected to go on to the Stage Business programme
where they will continue to expand their communication skills,
courage, resilience, and teamwork. Not only this but they will be
able to go into other schools and lead their own workshops a great
experience for their CV’s and life!

Journalism Apprentice Award
A journalist training at Lambeth College as part of a two-year
apprenticeship has been named one of the four best apprentice
journalists in the UK.
The National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ)
shortlisted John ‘JP’ Asher – Letchworth & Baldock reporter at
the Comet newspaper based in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, for its
Apprentice of the Year award. The winner will be announced, and
presented with the award, later this month at a gala dinner.
Former soldier JP, 25, works at the Comet four days a week and
studies at Lambeth on Fridays. He broke the story of Panama law firm
Mossack Fonseca’s Hertfordshire-based UK offshoot in April, and a
month later passed his 100 word-per-minute shorthand exam at the
first attempt.
He said: “I am flattered but proud to get this vote of confidence,
which I think reflects very well on the Comet and the great team we
have there.
“I’d also like to stress the quality of the tutors I’ve had at
Lambeth – I certainly wouldn’t have been able to do this without
them.”
Diana Holden, Apprenticeship Manager, said today: “We’re very proud
of PJ’s achievement. It’s just a year since another Lambeth
apprentice, Daniel Wright, won this award – so PJ could make it a
double.”

Career Ready Programme
Some of our level 3 learners have been busy preparing for and
completing a series of interviews with College staff and industry
professionals over the last week. This highly prestigious programme
helps our learners with a range of employability skills, networking
events and the opportunity to complete a paid summer internship. A
total of 25 learners out of 35 have been successful. A big well done
to them and we are looking forward to the learners getting a wealth
of experience and learning important new skills over the course of
the programme.
