This week is Progress Review Week and
is an opportunity for you to check that you are meeting your Career
Ready Standards in relation to commitment, behaviour and progress on your
programme of study which will include your main qualification, English
and Maths, work experience and tutorial. You will speak with your
Programme Leader about attendance, punctuality, completion of all
assignments and progression to next steps.
Continuing on with the theme of LGBT Month you will be
pleased to hear that your Student Union are hosting an early LGBT
Valentine’s Event on Wed 8th February, expect to see information stands
from Brook, Gaia, The Walcott Centre all offering advice and guidance how
to develop healthy and positive relationships as well as fund raising for
the Albert Kennedy Charity.
We hope you have a well-deserved rest over
half-term. Remember excellent attendance equals excellent results
so we look forward to seeing you recharged and ready to return for a
prompt start on the week-commencing the 20th February

Progress Review Week
LDC Tutorial
- LinkedIn
This week LDCs will be introducing
learners to LinkedIn. They will look at the benefits of being part of
the world’s largest professional networking site and think about some
of the ways learners can get the most out of it. The will end the
session by helping learners to create their own profiles including
details of their employment and education history. Finally, they will
have a chance to have a professional headshot taken for the site with
marketing if they wish.
LGBT Student Union Event
This week sees the start of LGBT month
and the Student Union will be hosting a celebration event on
Wednesday February 6th. They will be handing out positive
relationship leaflets as well as asking learners to fill out messages
on their positive affirmation board. The catering learners have
kindly agreed to supply a batch of delicious heart-shaped cookies and
the SU will also be giving away love hearts. Finally, they will be
selling raffle tickets to raise money for the Albert Kennedy Trust,
an LGBT homelessness charity, and with prizes including an ASOS, SW4
restaurant and Spa vouchers they imagine they will sell out fast!

6 – 10 February the Careers Team have organised a host of activities
around employability, work experience and university! Be sure

Meet your mentor: Career Ready Icebreaker event
On Thursday 2 February, Lambeth College hosted their first Icebreaker
event which launched the Career Ready mentorship scheme aimed at
helping students build their career. Business mentors from
businesses, including FleishmanHillard Fishburn and BP, met Learners to
help them start a career plan. Learners will meet with their
mentor every month to receive support in planning their career and to
develop the necessary interview and career skills.
The mentor scheme is run in partnership with Career Ready, a UK wide
charity linking employers with schools and colleges to open up the
world of work to young people. Mentor support their Learner
candidates for 12 months in the year through face-to-face
meetings, Skype, email and phone calls to help and guide them into
their career of choice.

Career Ready Icebreaker event is a very important first stage of the
career programme. We value the opportunity for our learners to be
inspired and guided by role models for one academic year.’

Masterclass series:
Success at Interviews
This Wednesday 8 February Career Ready students will attend the Success
at Interviews masterclass with the aim of being prepared for the summer
internship selection process taking place between May and June this
year. The masterclass will be delivered by Kristian Herrington from
Jupiter, the established fund management group.

Applying for university –
September 2017 cycle
If you have not submitted your UCAS application yet or you are still
undecided on the next steps please talk to your Learning Development
Coach or book a career appointment with Stefania Caria to discuss your
options and draw an action plan. The final deadline to apply to UCAS is
the 30 June 2017 and any application received after this date will go
through Clearing.

Sports
Enrichment Award for Lambeth College Learners
On Wednesday 1 February, both of Lambeth College 6-a-side football
teams went to Tower Hamlets College to play a friendly 6-a-side
football tournament. Four teams were competing and Lambeth
College teams finished in 2nd (Team1) and 3rd
(Team2) places. It was a great practise game for both
Lambeth College and Tower Hamlets College Football Teams.
The games were very competitive, intense and exciting, and the
teams demonstrated great technical and tactical skills. Six
Lambeth College learners –Jeffrey, Klajdi, Nathan, Noah, Sam and
Jorge were awarded with the Jack Petchey award for the hard work,
efforts and contribution they have made to the College Sports
Enrichment programmes. These Learners have been helping to set up
various Sports Enrichment activities across the college, also were
involved in organising and running various sports events.
The Jack Petchey Award has been set as the highest Sports award at the
college for outstanding performance and contribution to the College
Sports Enrichment programmes.
Well done to the winners and all the learners who were involved.

Lambeth's Silver Lining in the world of art.
On the 25 January, students from the Media and Creative Arts
subjects launched a blog call The Silver Lining. The Silver
Lining will be an eclectic mix of reviews, interviews and
commentaries that take you into the world of art. You don’t have
to be a student of the arts to follow and support us. We are a
blog site run by Lambeth students for students. More
importantly we want to share our passion with
you. There will be competitions for students to
take part in with great prizes on offer.

Opportunities for Hair and Beauty Learners
This week, Hair and Beauty Learner have been working with a
charity called Look Good, Feel Better who support women with
cancer. They visit London hospitals offering pamper
sessions and makeovers to help women feel better about themselves.
This is a great volunteering opportunity and can really make a
difference to a person’s life when they are at their most vulnerable.
It also looks great on your CV and could help you secure a paid
