Introduction
This week is Progress Review Week and an opportunity
for you to review your progress against the Career Ready
Standards with tutors to ensure you are on the right track for
outstanding achievement. English and Maths skills are at the top
of the list for employers so it is important that you place the
same emphasis on these key components of the study
programme. 100% attendance at classes and exams will put
you in the right place for the best result.
Half-term break begins on the 29th May,
you should use this time wisely to focus on any outstanding work
and as always we are on hand to support. The Learning and
Skills Centre will be open Tuesday to Friday of the half-term
week.
We trust you will have a well-deserved break and
look forward to welcoming you back on week-beginning 5th
June 2017.

LDC
Update
This
week LDCs will be focusing on Solving Problems and Spotting
Opportunities. They will discuss some of the key problem solving
and enterprise skills required in the modern job market. They will
think about what makes a person successful and what skills are
important to help get the career you want. They will also think
about at the range of skills that people need to help them solve
all kinds of problems. In addition, learners will have a chance to
assess their own skills and progress at college by completing a
Skills Identifier.
General
Election – voting drive
Chuka Umunna
– Labour MP for Streatham visiting the College
LDCs have delivered a tutorial on the key
points relating to the upcoming general election and encouraging
learners to register to vote. In addition, we have had
non-partisan voter registration campaigns on The Street, also from
the Labour party. This week LDCs will be bringing their groups to The
Theatre this Tuesday at 3.30pm to hear local Labour MP for
Streatham Chuka Umunna talk about the issues facing young
people in his constituency followed by a Q&A session.

Student
Union Update
The
Student Union Election voting moves into its second and final week
today. If you haven’t done so already, please read the candidate’s
manifestoes online and then vote for your favourites. All the
SU Election materials can be found on the Lambeth College Moodle
page. Go to Learner Voice from your home page and then scroll
down to find sections on manifestoes and voting. We are also
continuing with our lunch time voting drive this week so if you
don’t get a chance to vote in lesson you can vote using our iPads.
An LDC will be at the desk every lunch time, 12-2pm, just outside
the canteen in Clapham.

Lambeth Summer Open Event is
one of the biggest recruitment fairs during the year.
The
programme:
- A student told progression story from college
to university
- Interviews with conditional and
unconditional offers and enrolment
- Curriculum subject stalls and meet
the teachers
- Assessment centres
- Student engagement ‘Have a go activities'
- Summer fair in the
garden courtyard.

Globe Theatre Successes
On Thursday 13 May the Level 2 & 3 Media Make-up learners
visited the Globe Theatre as part of their work experience
placement. The students were invited to watch Jessica Swale’s
Olivier-Award winning play, Nell Gynn. The play is about an
unlikely heroine who went from a lowly orange seller to a national
treasure. The students thoroughly enjoyed the play and the
experience of watching it, in an outdoor theatre.

Opportunities for students interested in architecture and
construction
Work
Experience Day at OTIS for Engineering learners
Another trip to OTIS is scheduled on Tuesday 16 May. Learners
will get the opportunity to learn about the different roles within
the company, team building exercise and how to go about building an
engineering CV. The learners will also learn about opportunities
including apprenticeships and volunteering.

Masterclass series: Career Pathways
On Wednesday 10 April Career Ready students attended the Preparing
for Work masterclass with the aim of preparing for work by
identifying acceptable workplace behaviour and understanding employer
expectations. The masterclass was delivered by Hollie Willets,
Management Consultant at Accenture.
Students said: “This workshop helped me understand what employers
expect and the right way to come across in the workplace and towards
your manager”. “This session was informative and effective because I
have a better understanding on how to prepare and carry myself during
my placement”.

IBM
Apprenticeship talk
On Friday 12 May two L3 Business groups attended an Apprenticeships
talk delivered by Jez Brooks, Early Professionals Manager and
Apprentice Programme Leader from IBM. Students learnt about IBM
history, school leavers and apprenticeships schemes in London and at
IBM. They also found out more about different level of
apprenticeships including degree apprenticeships and the selection
process. Students said: “It was very useful and made me want to
explore my options after college”, “Good, friendly presentation and
interesting content”, “I learned more about my options after college.
I also feel more positive about my future”.

Well done!
Lambeth College Football Team wins London Football Association Indoor
Tournament.
On Wednesday the 10 May Lambeth College Football Team went to the SFX
College to participate at the London Football Association and SFX
College organised an invitational Indoor 5-a-side Football
Tournament. The Tournament was very competitive and required the best
effort from each team that participated at every game. Lambeth
College Team have played an excellent game from the beginning and
undefeated reached the finals. The finals was played between Lambeth
College and NewVic College, this battle was very competitive, equal
and intense until one of our learners – Klajdi scored a thrilling
goal last minute and lead our team to win the game 3 - 2. Also
Klajdi, who scored an impressive 12 goals all throughout the
tournament was nominated as the Most Valuable Player of the
tournament and won a price - Nike Trainers. Lambeth College Football
Team’s Champions Trophy is displayed at the College Health and Well
Being centre - A Block.

Restaurant Offer
|
£25 including a glass of sparkling wine on
arrival.
The Restaurant SW4 would like to invite you to the annual end of
year dinner at 6.30pm on 7 June 2017 for a three course meal
prepared by the Level 3 Advanced Cookery Learners.
This event marks the end of their three years of study at
Lambeth College. Please come and support them and their
tutor Chef Andrew Whitson who has designed this wonderful menu with
the learners.
