Introduction
It was great to see so many of you taking
part in our New Year New You Fair on Wednesday, 4th January
2017, speaking about your health and well-being with the Sports
Instructor and Ambassadors, taking advice from Lambeth Living Well
Network, Brook Sexual Health, The Wells Counselling Centre and other
partners for a positive start to 2017.
The foundation
of achievement is built on developing a sense of excellence which
is reflected in our Career Ready Standards. January can be a
difficult month and your first and most important New Year’s resolution
should be to ensure you have excellent attendance and
timekeeping. All the research indicates that there is a direct
correlation between high attendance and outstanding results.
We will
be rewarding 25 learners with 90% plus attendance in January with
laptops and a reminder that the bursary is also linked with 90%
attendance. The strong message here is that you should
attend all your lessons every day, including English and Maths.
Do speak with your Learner Development Coach or tutor if you want to
discuss any barriers in relation to attendance, we will work with you
to remove obstacles and support your success.
“I've
always believed that if you put in the work, the results will come. I
don't do things half-heartedly, because I know if I do, then I can
expect half-hearted results.”

LDCs
In their sessions this week the LDCs will be turning their attention to
work experience. They will discuss why work experience is important and
ask learners to identify careers that they are interested in. They will
also look at different strategies for finding work experience,
including online searches, cold calls and face-to-face contact.
Finally, they will emphasise that perseverance and resilience are the
keys to being successful in the hunt for good quality work experience.

New Year, New
You
Last week we welcomed back learners with a successful New Year, New You
fair. Learners were able to sign up to volunteering opportunities with
V Inspired, The Breyer Group and Duke of Edinburgh and start the new
year as they mean to go on by getting involved with Clapham Leisure
Centre, Cage Cricket and our very own sports enrichment program. Those
who were feeling the aches and pains of Christmas indulgence got hints
and tips about posture from chiropractors BackSpace and some learners
will even be going to observe their practice in the coming weeks. The
Well Centre, The Lambeth Living Well Network and Mosaic Clubhouse were
on hand to talk to learners about coping with mental health
difficulties and Lambeth FACE were giving advice about money issues.
Finally we were really pleased to see representatives from Hope Not
Hate and the Met Police talking to learners about the fight against
extremism and community safety.

Enrichment: Volunteering 2017
Volunteering at Lambeth College is a fantastic way to have fun, learn new
skills, meet new people, boost your CV and give something back. We
offer rewards - educational trips, free t-shirts and vouchers. We have
a variety of different volunteering opportunities so you can choose
when, where and how you give your time to support us.
You can volunteer on your doorstep - in your class, at our Health and
Well-being centre, or across the college trying to engage as many
learners as possible to participate in any of our offered sports
enrichment activities. Whether you have a day, a week or longer to
give, Lambeth College has a variety of flexible opportunities on offer
that can all help with CV and self-development.
The great thing about volunteering with Lambeth College is the choice
of opportunities and rewards we can help with, and the support we
give you to make your volunteering possible. For more information
please ask the College Sports Maker or the Sports Ambassadors.
